Soft system methodology can be known as SSM. SSM can be used in scenarios where in response to need or problem because you can analyse the problem and create the response accordingly. It is represented by the use of ‘ rich pictures’ and CATWOE. It tries to solve problems by not only looking at problem but looking at entire situation.
What SSM Interventions include?
Taking actions depending on the previous information gathered.
thinking about different systems which could not be employed in the situation.
locate the position like NMIT Technical institute ( Example in class)
measuring the different aspects in the system.
When we have a group problem or the stakeholders disagreement then we can use SSM interventions to solve the situation.
Can Soft System Methodology be useful within IT?
yes, i definitely say that SSM can be used in the IT field because it has the ability to solve the critical problems to finding best solutions. SSM is designed to solve these complexity problems in the IT. Rich pictures help us to identify and functions of the system in the effective way. once the problems are identified by rich pictures in the field of IT then we can follow the steps of SSM to solve it. Using rich pictures are very easy and they are very efficient. it provides a better understanding to find out the solution.
STEPS OF SSM
step 1: find out the problem
step 2: write down the problem
step 3: formulating system and thinking about the problem
step 4: understand the problem
step 5: building the conceptual idea to solve the problem
step 6: compare the problems and ideas
step 7:define possible changes and recommend operations.
SSM in NMIT Technical
last class we discussed about Rich pictures, and we have used NMIT as example in the reich pictures. In this we have both international and domestic students, tutors, staff members,CEO of nmit,etc.. are affected by SSM. it is a complex problem of nmit to reach everyone in the organization. so, SSM provides the clear structure by breaking them down. the developed structure can later be discussed with NMIT and then come up with a solution.
