METAPHOR

It is a representation that can describe a person or object with similar characteristics. it can change the perspective of a sentence. generally it carries a meaning of one word into another. metaphors are used in day-to-day life to convey their meaning and thoughts to others in tinkable way.

Some problems arise with metaphors?

i) they break the cultural and social protocals.

ii) sometimes we face problem with users metaphors.

iii) some terms does limit the imagination.

Example – life is a journey.

Computer metaphors?

computer programs are very complex and theoretical so, we use a tool to understand them called metaphors. there are lot of metaphors in computer language. it is easy to convey the meaning by using metaphors.

Example of computer metaphor- Programmers organizing data regularly speak of stacks, queues, trees, pipes, and streams.

There are two types of computer metaphors thet are:

1. GUI metaphors
2. Software metaphors.

General metaphors

basically they are normal metaphors which are used in a daily base in life. they are defines very close to metaphors. they are used to communicate and transfer one meaning to another. issues are they limit the imagination of the user. some times they distract the topic information.

Example – war is the mother of all battles.

How metaphors means for our IT specialist?

In IT we use a lot of computing metaphors. in fact the use of metaphors made IT industry easy to understand today. they helps to stimulate the imagination when working on IT design.

for example- in the cloud services we configure two networks and allow them to communicate in between two data streams and they transfers data, store data, and accessible anywhere in the world. in this “cloud” can be understood by every IT professional and can relate the information and where as in reality and in general cloud means state of gloom, trouble, or problem.
